It appears that most people would rather be buried too young than exercise
Not me.  Sure, I could go any second by accident or fluke, but the numbers are in my favor if I work at it.  This is the web information era, everything you could possibly want to know is at your fingertips.  My parents and grandparents didn't have today's data concerning aging.  They assumed that things would slow to a crawl and then one just quits living. So anyone today who is educated should be aware of how things really work.  If one has parents or family who are sitting on their duffs, get them moving, make a pest out of yourself.  Educate them and don't take 'no' for an answer.  After all, you want them around for awhile, and in the best shape they can be.  You never know, they may grudgingly say thank you for it later.
The numbers just came out ranking the State of Iowa at
#20 among the fifty states in our percentage of citizens who are obese, about 22% of the Iowa adult population.
My mind does not know how to handle those numbers.
This log is being published to keep me on the straight and narrow.  It's so easy to skip a day because the weather is crappy or my daughter's best friend is getting married or my son wants help adding a deck to his house or the pain producing saddle on my bike needs to be replaced.  My vanity will not allow me to skip if everyone knows about it.  I am a slacker on my best days but I don't wish to prove it in public.
To be biking on a trail at my highest aerobic pace and have some guy pass me with a whoshing sound tends to spur me to increase my pace.  If it is a woman whizzing by and she has saddle bags front and back, that really strengthens my resolve.  One good thing about working out on a trail, no one hears my huffing and puffing.  In the gym I get looks and have to fake it.
True Personal Story.
This is something about my mental health that I haven't discussed with my children, or anyone else for that matter.  I suppose I was afraid they would over react, and maybe I just didn't want to think about the possible prognosis.
It began about two or three years ago.  I would sometimes lose track of where I was when driving.  I would be daydreaming about something and come out of it to not recognize the road or the turnoff.  "Where the hell am I?"  The gap would only last about thirty seconds to a minute and then I would remember where it was I wanted to get to and why.  It gradually began to happen more and more often, eventually reaching the point where I trained myself to be patient and unconcerned for the needed minute until my brain processes began to fully function again.
I initiated my exercise program when turning 65.  It was nearly a month before I realized that my brain brown-outs had not re-occurred for awhile, at least not since my birthday.  Was it the exercise that was helping?  Does quitting smoking have anything to do with it? I don't know.  It's been nearly eight months now with no problems that way.  And I haven't discussed it with my doctor, either. Not that I'm hiding it, I just forget to tell him about it. I do have a strong feeling that physical fitness is tied not just to the body but to the brain, also.  It only makes sense to me that all that blood pumping like crazy, all those additional body chemicals being manufactured, and the focusing on a long term project helps keep everything running smoothly upstairs.  Repairs are made to the brain just as they are the rest of the body.  Take this info for what it's worth, but I am not going to slow down, not even a little bit.  Everything is working just the way I want it to and I desire that it stay that way. ...No drooling idiot here.

A husband and wife were having dinner at a very fine restaurant when this absolutely stunning young woman comes over to their table, gives the husband a big open mouthed kiss, then says she'll see him later and walks away.  The wife glares at her husband and says, "Who the hell was that?"  "Oh," replies the husband, "she's my mistress."  "Well, that's the last straw," says the wife. "I've had enough, I want a divorce!"  "I can understand that," replies her husband, "but remember, if we get a divorce it will mean no more shopping trips to Paris, no more wintering in Barbados, no more summers in Tuscany, no more Infiniti or Lexus in the garage and no more yacht club. But the decision is yours."  Just then, a mutual friend enters the restaurant with a gorgeous babe on his arm.  "Who's that woman with Jim?" asks the wife.  "That's his mistress," says her husband.  "Ours is prettier," she replies.
